Summer Research Fellowships
The ENSP program annually awards summer fellowships to support student research on a variety of environmental topics. The awards generally include a scholarship, money for research supplies and funds for the research advisor. ENSP currently sponsors the following fellowships:
- The ENSP Anne Davis '16 Summer Environmental Advocacy Fellowship
- The Anne Davis Environmental Advocacy Fellowship provides support for student research in the Environment & Sustainability Program, with a preference for environmental advocacy research. This fellowship is named in memory of Anne Kimball Davis ‘16, William and Susan Davis’ daughter. While at William & Mary, Anne studied sociology and environmental policy, consistently striving to better the community through environmental activism. She was involved with the Student Environmental Action Coalition, an organization that strives to make positive changes regarding environmental protection and sustainability. Anne also served as a trip leader for Branch Out Alternative Breaks, which offers students the opportunity to complete community service in a number of locations over school breaks. When writing about this role, she explained the importance of “working towards becoming active citizens who are intentional, inclusive and willing to put in the effort to build relationships that work toward structural and systemic change.” In her junior year, Anne was instrumental in coordinating Earth Week, an entire week of events centered on sustainability and environmental awareness. She directed her energies toward worthy initiatives off campus as well, participating in construction trips in Appalachia and other biking campaigns for affordable housing and environmental justice. Anne received the Lauren Burns Service Award from the Environmental Science and Policy program and was set to continue her post-grad life in at William & Mary as a Hunger and Nutrition Fellow in the Office of Community Engagement. Her friends admired her creativity, devotion and positive attitude toward the community. Thanks to Bill and Susan’s generosity, this endowment will continue that positive legacy, allowing for new research opportunities for students in the field of environmental policy and the acquisition of sustainable materials, including solar panels and native plants.
