Keck Environmental Field Laboratory

Located on the shore of Lake Matoaka on the William & Mary campus in Williamsburg, Virginia, the Keck Lab provides instructional and research support for environmental programs at William & Mary and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.

With direct access to Lake Matoaka and the surrounding College Woods, the 5,500 square-foot facility is an academic venue for hands-on investigation of issues within the increasingly complex and interdisciplinary world of environmental studies.

In addition to the seminar, lecture, laboratory, and field courses taught during the academic year, the Keck Lab hosts student research sponsored by funding organizations such as the National Science Foundation, Virginia Environmental Endowment, and the Charles Center.  The Keck Lab also offers real time weather observations and historical data, quarterly water quality data for the College Creek watershed, and poster printing services for students and faculty.

The Keck Lab celebrates the Year of the Environment in 2025, the campus-wide campaign to deepen William & Mary's commitment to safeguarding the environment and the communities that depend on its health and resilience.
