The Bruce Grant Award

The Bruce S. Grant Award celebrates the legacy of Dr. Bruce S. Grant, a retired William & Mary biology professor whose lifelong work focused on genetics and evolution. Created by several of his former students, this award recognizes an undergraduate biology student who is conducting or planning research with an evolutionary emphasis.

Selection is based primarily on how relevant the proposed research is to an evolutionary question and the overall scientific quality of the project. The committee also considers how feasible the project is and evaluates whether the student is well-prepared to carry it out. In assessing student readiness, the committee reviews academic performance, subject knowledge, research motivation, and any other indicators that point to a strong chance for both a successful and meaningful research experience.

Nominators should provide details about the student’s research projects, honors work, publications, conference presentations, involvement in the academic community, and any research grants or awards received. Nominations are accepted during the spring semester.
