Dr. Ann Baldwin Bates Scholarship
Overview
Named in memory of Dr. Ann Baldwin Bates (Biology '90), this need-based scholarship supports upper-class Biology majors who have demonstrated a selfless and compassionate commitment to others through volunteer health care service.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for this award, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Standing: Must be a current sophomore or junior with a declared Biology major (verified on DegreeWorks).
- Service History: Substantial volunteer experience in health care settings during high school and/or college. This includes, but is not limited to, hospital volunteering, hospice care, or community clinics.
- Financial Need: Demonstrated financial need for the upcoming academic year.
- FAFSA Requirement: Applicants must have a FAFSA on file at William & Mary at the time of application.
Application Timeline and Disbursement
- Call for Applications: Typically emailed to Biology majors in March or April.
- Deadlines: Applications are generally due in April or May.
- Review Process: The Biology Department’s Undergraduate Studies Committee (USC) directs the selection process.
- Disbursement: Funds are applied directly to the recipient's W&M student account during the subsequent academic year.
