Overview

Established in honor of Charlotte Preston Mangum, an emeritus member of the Biology Department faculty and an internationally renowned scientist, this prestigious award is given to a graduating student for outstanding research in biology.

  • Award Recognition: A formal presentation at the Biology Graduation Ceremony.

Application Requirements

The application should be written by the student in consultation with their faculty advisor. The following materials must be compiled:

  1. Thesis Title and Abstract: Provided by the student.
  2. Student Resume/CV: This document must include comprehensive details regarding:
    • Research and Travel Grants: Any funding secured for projects or conference attendance.
    • Presentations: Including the full name of the conference, location, and date.
    • Publications: Full citations for any published work.
    • Post-Graduation Plans: A brief summary of the student’s next steps.
    • Additional Honors: Other awards or relevant academic information.
    • Academic Record: Current GPA and a copy of the student's transcript.
  3. Letters of Support: Formal nomination letters from the faculty member(s).

Submission Instructions

To maintain a streamlined review process, the faculty advisor (not the student) is responsible for submitting the completed application and all letters of support.

  • Recipient: Submit via email to the Chair of the Undergraduate Studies Committee.
