Bio

Luigi is a doctoral candidate at William and Mary, where he researches the South Atlantic slave trade, commercial networks, and subaltern technologies during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. His research investigates how the logistics and financing of the legal and illegal slave trade created transimperial networks connecting different Atlantic Empires, while at the same time generating opportunities for resistance against enslavement and the transfer of knowledge overseas.

Luigi holds a BA in History from the University of Brasília, an MA in History from the Federal Fluminense University, and an MA in History from the College of William & Mary. His recent work has been published in scholarly journals in Brazil and Mexico, with an emphasis on economic history. He is also a member of the Center for World Comparative History (COMMUN) and the Eulália and Bárbara Study and Research Group in Economic History (GEPEB), based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
