Undergraduate Publishing Opportunities

The following list, prepared by the Public Policy Program and Schroeder Center for Health Policy, details academic journals that publish public policy- and health policy-related papers from undergraduate students. If you are interested in submitting your research to one of these journals, please identify a faculty advisor to help ensure your work is appropriate for the publication you have in mind. Then work with the faculty advisor to confirm submission deadline dates, eligibility requirements, etc. by reviewing the appropriate journal websites.

Philosophy, Politics, and Economics Review
Virginia Tech 
Deadline: Submissions between April 1 and May 31, 2024 
  • The Philosophy, Politics, and Economics Review accepts original research from current or recent undergraduate students on topics in PPE and the humanities and social sciences more generally.   
International Atlantic Economic Society Annual Best Undergraduate Paper Award 
October 2024 
Deadline: June 15, 2024  
  • The IAES strives to recognize and reward outstanding research conducted by undergraduate students worldwide. Each year, four finalists are selected to present their research orally at the International Atlantic Economic Conference in October and is judged on presentation and content. The winner will receive $1,000. 
Academic Leadership Journal in Student Research
Fort Hays State University

  • Academic Leadership Journal in Student Research is an Open Access, annual, online, peer reviewed, international journal dedicated to the publication of empirical and non-empirical student research (undergraduate and graduate) within all disciplines, and of pedagogically based professional work that explores the intersection of student research with teaching and faculty research. Our mission is to provide a forum for exceptional student research and to promote collaboration between students and teachers in the classroom, laboratory, and field. 
American Journal of Undergraduate Research 
Deadline: Rolling  
  • We accept new work in all fields and reviews/interpretations in creative fields if they demonstrate sufficient novelty & contribution to the field. Graduate students and faculty are encouraged to co-author AJUR publications. International submissions are welcome. There is no submission or processing cost to authors to publish in AJUR. There are no submission deadlines. There are no word limits; however, the manuscript should be of a typical article length in your discipline. Your article should not have been submitted or published anywhere else. 
Critique: A Worldwide Student Journal of Politics

  • Critique is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes scholarship by students of political science. The journal, which is recognized by American Political Science Association (APSA) and indexed by EBSCO-Host database, accepts submissions from all the subfields of political science. 
International Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (IJURCA)
Pacific University and Central Washington University

  • The International Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (IJURCA) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the publication of outstanding scholarship by undergraduates and their mentors. IJURCA accepts submissions from undergraduate students in all academic disciplines. 
Intersect: The Stanford Journal of Science, Technology, and Society  
Stanford University
Deadline: Rolling  
  • Intersect is an international Science, Technology, and Society research journal run by undergraduate students at Stanford University and supported by the Program in STS at Stanford. It publishes research and scholarship on the social factors that shapes, underwrites, and/or inhibits research and invention, just as these social forces are, in turn, shaped by evolving science and technology. It welcomes undergraduate, graduate, and PhD submissions at the intersection of history, culture, sociology, art, literature, business, law, health, and design with science and technology. 
Journal of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Excellence

  • JURSE is a peer-reviewed, undergraduate journal registered with the Library of Congress that accepts submissions of any subject, from any undergraduate institution. 
Open Americas: Research and Literature on the Americas

  • Open Americas (OA) is a platform for sharing content that engages with contemporary social issues facing the Western Hemisphere. We advocate a diversity of thought through information, whether it be conveyed through research, literature, reviews, or photographs.   
Sigma Iota Rho Journal of International Relations

  • The Sigma Iota Rho Journal of International Relations Online Edition publishes articles and analyses on current global issues throughout the year. We accept unsolicited submissions and welcome pitches from undergraduate students in the field of international studies. 
Spectrum
University of Alberta

  • Spectrum strives to publish diverse and engaging research completed by undergraduate students within and across the areas of health sciences, natural sciences and engineering, social sciences, arts and humanities. We will consider submissions in a variety of formats, provided that the work is driven by an underlying research question. 
Swarthmore Undergraduate History Journal  
Swarthmore College

  • Swarthmore Undergraduate History Journal is a peer-reviewed, faculty-approved, student run research publication that seeks to encourage undergraduate scholarship on diverse subjects. We uphold publishing ethics and are committed to the integrity of academic research. This journal is also specifically inclusive of historical narratives often overlooked in mainstream scholarship, and allows for the submission of interdisciplinary articles so long as the focus remains historical.
