Elena Vasileva specializes in Russian literature and culture of the 19th and 20th centuries, cultural memory studies, and digital humanities. Her research focuses on the construction and transmission of narratives through literary means and performative practices. She is currently working on a book about the legacy of Russian modernism as reflected in the memoirs and autobiographical prose of its witnesses and participants throughout the 20th century. This project analyzes how modernist culture is codified at the crossroads of individual reminiscences and collective cultural memory. Her research has been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Elena has taught courses on the Russian novel and short story, on the Russian language at introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels, as well as for heritage speakers.
