Valentina Sorbera, Assistant Teaching Professor of Italian Studies, received her M.A. in Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language from the University for Foreigners of Perugia, Italy, and her B.M. and M.F.A in Piano Performance from the Conservatory of Music P. Mascagni in Livorno, Italy. Before joining the faculty at William & Mary, she was an Instructor of Italian language at Christopher Newport University, and previously at Old Dominion University. In her courses, she promotes Italian language learning through music. Her research focuses on the effective use of music and technology in foreign language teaching, as well as contemporary Italian pop music, with recent publications exploring cultural identity, multiculturalism, ecofeminism, and environmental sustainability in Italian pop songs. She is also an active piano accompanist and has collaborated with the New Musical Labs at the Ferguson Center, the Virginia Choral Society, and the Opera Workshop at Christopher Newport University.
