Undergraduate Program

William & Mary requires that all undergraduates have a basic proficiency in mathematics. Some students choose to fulfill this requirement with test or transfer credit earned in high school. Many take at least one calculus course at W&M, though the department offers several non-calculus courses, including first-year seminars.

The mathematics program at William and Mary allows majors and minors to design a plan of study based on their own interests and career goals. Students are prepared for post-baccalaureate employment and for further study of mathematical sciences and related disciplines.

Students not majoring in mathematics may design elective programs needed for specific careers or to inform their studies in other disciplines. Problems that arise in the physical and biological sciences, engineering, economics, finance, and the social sciences often require mathematics to make sense of them.

The Computational & Applied Mathematics & Statistics program gives the opportunity for undergraduates to study the application of mathematics in other disciplines.
