2017 Faculty Governance Award

Citation for Catherine Forestell

Professor Catherine ForestellSince joining the faculty in 2007, Professor Forestell has demonstrated exemplary engagement in the life and governance of the Psychology Department, Arts & Sciences, and the College generally.

Serving two terms as director of the department's Undergraduate Studies Committee, she worked closely with faculty and students to ensure that the Psychology curriculum meets the goals of the department and the College. She has also served on the department’s Public Relations Committee, several departmental search committees, and as both pre-major and major advisor.

As a faculty member committed to general education, she has developed and taught COLL 100 and COLL 300 courses and engaged colleagues in discussions about her experiences and lessons learned in these courses. As a Fellow in the Center for the Liberal Arts she has helped to foster excitement and innovation throughout the College Curriculum, including her work to co-develop and co-present the standing May Seminar, "Communication Concepts and the First-Year COLL Experience."

In addition to her current service on the A&S Faculty Affairs Committee and as Vice-President (2016-17) and member of the Faculty Assembly, she has served on the A&S Committee on Honors and Interdisciplinary Studies, the College's Planning and Resources Committee and Quality and Assessment Plan Steering Committee, and the President’s Task Force on Preventing Sexual Assault and Harassment; co-chaired the Women’s Network; and is a first-year advisor for William and Mary Scholars.

For her many contributions, it is fitting that Professor Forestell be recognized with the Arts & Sciences 2017 Faculty Governance Award.
