Congratulations to the Graduates of 2025!

The Department of Classical Studies honored our graduating undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students on May 17, 2025:  undergraduates: Hailey Bowman, Grant Cvik, Julia Dunn (JDP), Grace Kirk (JDP), Caro Lipsitz, Sarah Long, Linnea Mason, Alexandra Mendelsohn, Michael Pagano (JDP), Lorelei Petersen, Hannah Ryan, and Maia Tindall; post-baccs: Caroline Snodgress; Fred Wang.

All of these students made a tremendous impact on our department, and they will be missed. They are headed from W&M to many different places – careers in finance, graduate programs in Education, Physical Therapy, and Classical Studies (at: the University of Maryland, Penn State University, and the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, and Oxford University). A few of them are planning a “Grand Tour” of their own this summer!

Each year at graduation, students submit “shout outs,” sharing their favorite memory of their time at W&M with the audience.  We provide some selections here.

Sarah Long: “Under the guidance of Professor Donahue, I completed an Honors Thesis exploring the intersections between Roman law and gender. My favorite memory with the department is hard to choose, but I especially loved studying abroad in Rome and Pompeii!”

Alexandra Mendelsohn: “I loved every part of my time in this close-knit department, from taking classes on sexuality in the ancient world and barbarians to presenting my research on the Severan dynasty and the Argonautica.”

Maia Tindall: “My fondest memory — both within the Classics department and overall — has been the experience of researching and writing my Honors Thesis under the guidance of Professor Paga. The process challenged me intellectually and creatively; from initial brainstorming sessions to final revisions, it was a formative journey that shaped not only my academic growth but also my confidence, discipline, and ability to think independently.”
