Not a Chemistry Major?

Chemistry plays an important role in understanding the world around us, from the medicines we take and the energy we use to the materials that power modern technology. A chemistry course can help you develop scientific literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that are valuable in any field.

Whether you're exploring a new interest, fulfilling a COLL requirement, or preparing for a major in another discipline, the Department of Chemistry offers courses designed for students across the university.

Chemistry Courses for Non-Science Majors

These courses are open to all first-year students and are a great way to explore chemistry while fulfilling COLL requirements. If you're interested in learning more about science but do not plan to major in a natural science, consider one of the following courses:

  • CHEM 100 – Fulfills the COLL 100 requirement.
  • CHEM 150 – Fulfills the COLL 150 requirement.
  • CHEM 101: Chemistry, Energy, and Environment – Fulfills a COLL 200 requirement.
  • CHEM 201: Color, Light & Chemistry – Fulfills a COLL 200 requirement.

Chemistry Courses for Other Science Majors

Many science majors include chemistry coursework as part of their degree requirements. Be sure to review the Undergraduate Catalog and consult with your academic advisor to ensure you are meeting the requirements for your major.

Some students may take lecture courses without the associated lab; however, lab courses are required for biology, neuroscience, and many pre-health pathways. Students with AP or IB credit in chemistry may be eligible to receive credit for some introductory chemistry courses.
