Register to Present

Here are the requirements to present your research project at the 2025 Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium.

The 2025 Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium will take place Friday, September 19th in the Swem Library Read & Relax Room.

After reading the instructions for presentation formats below, you will apply for a preferred session time and format by completing the Symposium Registration Form. On this form, you will also provide your name, major, mentor information, project title, and abstract exactly as you want it to appear on the Charles Center website.

Registration Deadlines

Sunday, August 10th at 11:59 pm - Deadline for Charles Center-funded students to register
- All other students who need their 36" x 48" poster printed free of charge should also apply to present by this date.
- After this deadline, any student wishing to present a print poster will be responsible for professionally printing it on their own.
Sunday, September 7th at 11:59 pm - Deadline for undergraduates not funded by the Charles Center to register

Presentation Format Options

Printed Posters

Poster presentations will be 48" wide by 36" tall printed posters. You may choose to have the Charles Center print your poster for you free of charge.
Digital 5-Slide Presentation

The digital "poster" presentation is a 5-slide PowerPoint shown on a 29" monitor connected to your laptop.
Visual Arts Presentation

Creative presentations may include paintings, photography, prints, sculpture, short films, etc.
Substitute Video Presentation

Students not attending the Symposium due to an unavoidable conflict will create a 5-minute video presentation on YouTube to be uploaded to the online program.

Program Schedule - Friday, September 19th

10:45 AM - Opening Remarks

11:00 AM -12:30 PM – Printed & Digital Poster Session 1

12:30-1:15 PM – Visual Arts Session

1:15-2:45 PM – Printed & Digital Poster Session 2

You will be one of many presenters in a large room. During your 90-minute time slot, you’ll have an assigned spot where you will set up your 36"x48" printed poster or will pull up your digital presentation on a monitor. People attending the session will be able to wander through the room and stop to talk to any presenters. If you have a poster, you will present a 1-2 minute elevator pitch. If you have a digital presentation, you will give your 5-slide presentation. Your audience should feel free to ask questions about your research and have a conversation with you. Information about your project and where you will be located in the Read & Relax Room will be uploaded to the online program before the Symposium.

Yes! You should select the option for printing your own poster on the poster submission form which will be emailed to you. Your printed poster must be 36" tall and 48" wide and professionally printed. It must adhere to all criteria on this webpage. Please note that printing your poster through the Campus Print Shop can cost up to $90.

All undergraduate students who received a summer grant from the Charles Center are required to present at the Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium, with the exception of students completing an Honors Thesis, who will present in the spring.

Yes! All William and Mary undergraduates who have faculty-mentored research or creative work are invited to register to present as long as space is available.

If you and one or more other students collaborated on a research project, you are welcome to do one presentation together. Each student should complete a separate Symposium registration form. Please ensure that your title and abstract is the same across all group members' registrations.
Students must present at the same poster session.
All students must contribute to the presentation and be present at the Symposium.

Students not able to attend the Symposium due to an unavoidable conflict should still submit the Registration Form to let the Charles Center know.
Please see the Substitute Presentation section for instructions on submitting a prerecorded video presentation by Friday, September 12th.
