Operations Research
Operations Research began during World War II as a method for improving military strategies and efficiently allocating limited resources. Today, the field applies mathematical modeling and computational tools to study complex systems and support better decision-making. These techniques are widely used in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, government, and defense.
The Computational and Applied Mathematics and Statistics (CAMS) program offers a B.S. in Computational & Applied Mathematics and Statistics. Students can major in the CAMS - Operations Research track. This track prepares students for industrial employment in operations research or advanced graduate study in operations research or a related field. CAMS also offers a Master of Science (M.S.) in Computational Operations Research, pending final approval from the State Council on Higher Education in Virginia.
