Art & Art History

The Visual Resources Center of the Department of Art and Art History maintains a continuously expanding collection of digital images. Although it primarily supports the daily teaching and ongoing research of faculty and students within the department, we are available to the William & Mary community at large and welcome faculty and students to peruse our vast database of images.

Our collections currently number approximately 46,000 digital images that have been locally and commercially produced. Works of art and architecture from prehistoric times to the present, from both Western and non-Western cultures are represented. They increase in depth of subject and source on a daily basis.

The collection contains images of traditional media such as architecture, drawing, sculpture, painting, photography, prints and manuscripts.

You may view images by logging onto our Digital Image Database called WMdid

You need a current William & Mary user id to log on to the database.

The use of materials in the Visual Resources Center is subject to the College of William & Mary's copyright guidelines. The VRC abides by the Fair Use provisions of the Copyright Act and also follows the Image Collection Guidelines produced by the Visual Resources Association. Materials borrowed by faculty and students are to be used for educational, nonprofit use only.

The Visual Resources Center is located in Room 207, Andrews Hall, open by appointment.

Please contact the department chair, Professor Alan C. Braddock, [[acbraddock]], with questions.
