Professor wins two prestigious fellowships in one month

It’s been quite a celebratory month for Susan Verdi Webster, the Jane Williams Mahoney Professor of Art History and American Studies at the College of William & Mary. Hard on the heels of her prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship in early April, Webster has been chosen for a second fellowship – from the National Humanities Center (NHC). Read more.

Art Historian Xin WU will teach the Art of East Asia for the department. Her current research interest focuses on representation of nature in gardens, paintings, and woodblock prints, and reciprocity between landscape, pedagogy, and history in Chinese neo-Confucian academies, as well as encounter between East Asia and the West. Alan Wallach, the Ralph H. Wark Professor of Art and Art History and Professor of American Studies, retired this spring. Professor Wallach has been with the college since 1989.  He has written extensively on nineteenth and twentieth century American art and the history of American art museums.
