On July 1, 2025, Workday replaced some of Banner as the new enterprise software platform for finance and human resources. To meet the evolving needs of its faculty and staff, W&M has modernized its ERP to align the current business demands of the university with a technology partner and toolset that delivers the functionality and user experience that is needed by the W&M community.

Delegation in Workday

Delegation enables users to give another person the ability to initiate business processes on their behalf or take actions on their My Tasks items.
Reminder: Cornerstone Learning Turned Off; Performance Remains Enabled

William & Mary has launched Workday Learning, and Cornerstone Learning is now limited to Performance content only. Only completed Cornerstone training will migrate, and all past completed history is expected to appear in Workday Learning beginning April 1.

Workday is William & Mary’s system for managing human resources, payroll, and finance. It serves as the university’s central hub for many administrative functions, providing a modern, user-friendly platform to complete tasks such as updating personal information, managing benefits and payroll, submitting expense reports, tracking time, and more. For employees, Workday streamlines everyday processes into one place; for managers and administrators, it provides real-time data and reporting tools to support informed decision-making.

To support your learning and make the transition to Workday easier, a variety of helpful resources—including job aids and links to training recordings—are available on the Workday launch website at launch.workday.wm.edu. These tools are designed to guide you through common processes and answer your questions as you get started with Workday.

Please submit any Workday-specific questions using the Workday Support Portal at help.workday.wm.edu. For all other non-Workday questions or issues—including general IT, HR, Finance, Procurement, or Travel questions—please contact those departments directly. You can email Human Resources, Finance, Payroll, and Supply Chain, or reach out to Travel for related inquiries. For all other technical support inquiries, please contact IT by email or call 1-HELP.

A cross-functional team from academic and student offices recently met with implementation partners to discuss the readiness, engagement, and implementation plan for Workday Student. These conversations mark an important step towards modernizing the student systems at W&M and will help prepare the university for upcoming initiatives. As the planning progresses, we will keep the campus community updated and share more details.

The university successfully launched the first phase of the Workday project on July 1, 2025 and is currently in the stabilization phase. This initial rollout focused on optimizing core human resources, payroll, and finance operations, with ongoing efforts to ensure smooth adoption and address any emerging needs.

The second phase of the project began at the end of September 2025 and introduced new modules for learning, performance management, and adaptive planning. Workday Learning, Talent & Performance and Advanced Compensation went live in February and March 2026. Adaptive Planning will go live in 2027.

Beginning in spring 2026, activities that were previously managed in Cornerstone—such as employee trainings and performance management—transitioned to Workday. The new modules introduced in phase 2 of the Workday project will gradually replace Cornerstone, offering enhanced tools for learning and performance tracking all in one integrated platform. During this transition, users will receive instructions and support to help them complete required trainings and manage performance reviews within Workday, ensuring a smooth shift from Cornerstone processes.

The Workday website is a great place to go for updates on the project. In the “Recent Activities” section, you can view all past newsletters and issues of the Workday Watch. The Workday Watch newsletter is the best source for the most recent updates, and it is emailed directly to all faculty, staff, and hourly employees. In addition, attending town halls and roundtable discussions with the Change Management Team is an excellent way to get information, stay informed, and have your questions answered about ongoing changes and future plans.

Yes, your personal information is secure in Workday. The system uses advanced security protocols and encryption to protect your data, ensuring only authorized individuals can access sensitive information. William & Mary follows strict privacy policies and regularly monitors Workday for compliance, so you can feel confident that your personal details are safeguarded.

Many student employees use Workday in the same way as other hourly employees. They enter the hours they work directly into the system and are able to view their payslips and update personal information through the Workday platform.
