Pull stories from news.wm.edu into Cascade

If you do not yet have a News section, follow these steps to get started.

Are you borrowing a story from Cascade?

If you are borrowing a news story originally published in Cascade, follow these steps.

Step 1: The Essentials
  1. Navigate to and select your news listing folder.
  2. Select Add Content >> Borrowed Items >> Borrowed news.wm.edu Story.
  3. Enter a Page Name (no spaces, all lowercase).
  4. Set the parent and sibling checkboxes. These adjust the page menu on this page only.
  5. Enter the publish date for the story you are borrowing. The publish date is available by clicking into the story on the news.wm.edu site. It is listed underneath the story's headline to the right of the author byline. You may enter any publish time as it is not visible.
  6. Copy the web address of the news story you are borrowing beginning with https://news.wm.edu/ and ending with the story's title. Do not include any additional characters after the story's title.
    • Correct: https://news.wm.edu/2022/06/02/wm-honors-students-faculty-and-staff-who-demonstrate-values-in-action/
    • Incorrect: https://news.wm.edu/2022/06/02/wm-honors-students-faculty-and-staff-who-demonstrate-values-in-action/?utm_source=wmdigest&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=news
  7. Preview Draft >> Submit >> Check Content & Submit >> Finish (Checkmark).
  8. Publish your news listing folder.
  9. When the original news.wm.edu page is edited, the changes will instantaneously be applied to to the Borrowed news.wm.edu Story. No further action is required in Cascade to reflect those changes.
Step 2: Add right-column elements (optional)

Add listboxes or widgets to your page.

Step 3: Adjust which News Stories are featured on your homepage (optional)
  1. If your site does not automatically display news stories on the homepage, you will first need to contact your Cascade Web Manager to request this custom feature.
  2. Next, set the folder order of the stories.
  3. The stories you want displayed on the homepage should be numbered 1 and 2 (and 3 or 4 if your site displays four stories on its homepage).
