Office of the University Architect
Intro & Menu
Our mission is to plan, design and construct high quality facilities that support the work of our faculty, students and staff, using the most integrated, efficient, cost effective, and sustainable means available; and to maintain a highly trained staff of professionals dedicated to achieving routine excellence in support of the university community.
Featured Project
The Wren Preservation project is a year-long effort to address moisture-related and maintenance issues in the nation’s oldest university building. The building will remain open while work takes place, which will involve replacing the nearly 100-year-old roof, repairing gutters, stones, plaster, wood, bricks, and mortar, as well as waterproofing the foundation and installing a new in-ground drainage system.
The Wren Building will remain open throughout construction, which began in February 2025. Updated logistics information will be provided throughout the project as work progresses in and on various areas of the building.
Current Projects
William & Mary continues to progress on improvements that will benefit campus community members for decades to come, and transform facilities for students, staff, faculty and visitors. The portfolio tiles below link to details and images for capital projects that are currently in design or under construction.
Planning, Design & Construction Resources
Planning, design, and construction efforts at William & Mary are guided by a set of documents, policies, and guidelines that provide a framework for these endeavors. These include capital planning initiatives and master planning documents, a set of technical standards, and the university's Design and Construction Manual.
Business Affairs and OUA collaborates with various agencies across the Commonwealth for the development of projects on campus. The authority having jurisdiction for code and permit-related items is the Division of Engineering & Buildings.
