Who are WCC peer consultants?
Writing and Communication Center (WCC) consultants are trained peer tutors who meet one-on-one with students for 50-minute sessions to help with writing and communication projects. Consultants also support the daily operations of the WCC through various tasks.
Our consultants come from many different majors, including Chemistry, Economics, English, Government, Hispanic Studies, History, Kinesiology, Math, Psychology, and more.

When can I apply?
The application opens October 7 and closes November 16, 2025.
What do I need to submit?
- Completed online application with short-answer questions
- An academic writing sample
- A draft of your spring 2026 schedule
- A faculty recommendation
All materials must be submitted online through the links below (active during the application period).
What happens after I apply?
Selected applicants will be interviewed during the first week of final exams. If accepted, you'll join our trainee cohort and enroll in WRIT 399: College Writing Theory and Practice in spring 2026.
About WRIT 399:
- 2-credit course
- Meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:00–12:50 PM
- Covers writing center history, theory, and practice
- Includes opportunities to observe and practice consulting
What happens after training?
Trainees who complete WRIT 399 will be fully integrated into the schedule starting Fall 2026.
Consultant requirements:
- Pay: $12.41/hour
- Hours: Most consultants work 3–6 hours per week
- Must maintain a 3.0 GPA
- Attend staff meetings every other Monday, 12:00–12:50 PM
How Can I Learn More?
Join us at an info session in the WCC (located in Swem Library)! Current consultants will answer questions about the training course and what it's like to work in the WCC.

NOTE: Applications for the Spring 2026 trainee cohort will be available October 7, 2025 to November 17, 2025. Applications are not accepted outside of this window.
