Courses that Meet Breadth Requirements

Here is a list of courses that fulfill the proficiency and breadth requirements of the St Andrews Joint Degree Programme. Note: One course may fulfill up to TWO breadth requirements.

Proficiencies
  • Foreign Language Proficiency
    • a 202-level language course at W&M,
    • courses with advisor approval at St Andrews, or
    • by taking 4 years of a language in high school.
  • Digital Information Literacy
    • one credit JDP fall course
  • Writing Proficiency/Freshman Seminar
    • any course with a COLL150 attribute
  • Quantitative Proficiency
    • AP test credit for calculus or statistics,
    • any MATH course at W&M or MT course at St Andrews, or
    • any W&M Statistics course (ECON 307, KINE 394, PYCH 301, SOCL 353) or Statistics for Economists at St Andrews.
    • ECON and International Relations majors will fulfill this proficiency through required coursework for the major (ECON 307 or GOVT 301)

    • Any W&M BIOL, CHEM, ENSP, GEOL, or PHYS course
    • AP/IB/A-level equivalents

    • Any St Andrews AS, BL, CH, ES, or PH course
  •  Individual & Social Behavior
    • International Relations and Economics majors will fulfill this proficiency through required coursework
    • Any W&M ANTH (except ANTH 203), ECON, GOVT, LING, SOCL;
    • AP, IB, A-level equivalents
    • PSYC except for courses listed for World of Nature above
    • Any St Andrews EC, IR and SA
  • Western Civilization
    • History majorwill fulfill this proficiency through required coursework
