Selection Criteria

The review committee will consider the following factors: academic standing, disciplinary status, statement of interest, nature of the internship, demonstrated commitment to the field of public policy, and the connection between the internship and the applicant's career interests.

Basis for Disqualification
The following criteria may serve as automatic disqualification from the Public Policy/Schroeder Center internship funding process:

  • Incomplete application at time of deadline or submission of materials after the deadline
  • Inaccurate representation of internship or employer information

Graduating students and students who do not return to W&M in the Fall following the internship are not eligible.

Selection Committee

Applications will be reviewed by a committee from W&M’s Public Policy Program and the Schroeder Center. Selected students will be notified of decisions about awards and the acceptance/decline deadline as soon as possible after application review.

Disbursement of Award
Awards will be distributed prior to the experience, if at all possible. If an intern does not complete the full internship for any reason or does not return for the Fall semester following the internship, they will be responsible for repaying the full award amount. Questions about funding disbursement can be directed to Sophie Correll (sbcorr@wm.edu; 221-2368).
