Holiday 2013 Newsletter

Dear Alumni:

In this season of giving thanks, we want to thank you for your generosity and support.  With your donations, we hope to be able to provide some financial assistance to the department’s honors and graduate students who will be travelling to conferences to present their research during the Spring semester.  Nine students are currently conducting honors theses with psychology faculty advisors.  Please see a summary of their topics here:

Along with their students, psychology professors Dr.  Dallaire and Dr. Forestell are collecting diapers for children and families in need in the greater Williamsburg area as part of their 30 Days for Diapers campaign. Please see more about their work:

Next year we will try something new and have a brunch on the Saturday of Homecoming Weekend – more details are forthcoming.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Nalini Ambady (M.A. ’85) and our sympathies go out to her family. Following a long and very public fight with leukemia, Ambady died on Oct. 28. In addition to her important contributions to the field of social psychology, her good-natured spirit is remembered in this recent article:

In faculty news, Professor Pamela Hunt was recently elected President of the International Society for Developmental Psychobiology:

Remember to let us know your news by sending your updates to psychology@wm.edu.  As our seniors and MA students contemplate life after graduation, please let us know if you have an internship opportunity at your place of work or a summer internship placement for our current students.

As you get into the holiday spirit, please also considering making a tax-free donation to your psychology department. Your donations help fund our undergraduate research projects and contribute toward educating the next generation of psychologists!

On behalf of the Psychology faculty, I wish you all a happy holiday season and wish you the best for 2014!

Sincerely,

Janice Zeman
