Background

Kyle Collins is the historical keyboardist for Colonial Williamsburg, and performs with resident early music ensemble, The Governor’s Musick. He is the harpsichordist for Amaranti Ensemble, a period-instrument duo he has with baroque flautist Maria Gabriela Alvarado Pasko, where they focus on early music by women composers and aspects of 18th-century domestic music making. Kyle also serves as the organist and choir director of Williamsburg Baptist Church.

Kyle first heard the harpsichord when he played Final Fantasy IX at age 9, but would not actually see a harpsichord until his undergraduate piano studies. This inspired a penchant for connecting early music to people of the time. At Colonial Williamsburg, his programming blends the history of colonial Virginians with interactive audience participation to create engaging musical experiences for their guests.

Kyle is currently completing his Doctor in Musical Arts degree at Stony Brook University with Arthur Haas. He primarily focuses on the domestic music-making sphere of early America and 18th-century London. His ongoing projects are collecting the various keyboard collections of Scottish, Irish, and Welsh tune variations, as well as recording the complete harpsichord sonatas composed and published by Charlotte Wainewright in c. 1800.
