German House in Review Year 2025/26
The academic year 2025/26 has been another eventful and exciting year in the German Language House.
After moving into our new dorm Pine Hall, we got started with our events, several of which were organized by students. Tristan organized a German Boardgame Night, which drew many of our residents. Emily organized a German Music Night, which began with a quiz section where students’ knowledge of German music history was tested. After that, the karaoke part followed and we had lots of great performances, including one by the popular singer Falco. Also, we had two cooking events where we made Kaiserschmarrn and pumpkin soup.
Approaching the Christmas season, we got our crafting game going: G-House and its guests from the language classes crafted snow globes, produced orange soap bars that made beautiful Christmas presents, and even crafted their own advent calendars! Everyone really let their creativity shine. We also baked Christmas cookies, and G-House’s Sarah held an event about castles in Germany, where students were tasked to build castles using kinetic sand!
On December 6th, students in the G-House awoke to a nice surprise: Nikolaus had left them sweets and little treats in their shoes, as is tradition in Germany.
After winter break, the German House continued with renewed vigor: watching German movies, making Käsespätzle, Kaiserschmarrn and Currywurst, and more crafting events like making scented candles and painting with acrylic paints.
In March, events became a bit more spring-themed, and G-House baked a delicious Apfelstrudel! We also had Karaoke Night II and another soap making event, this time making lemon-lime-soap.
In April, the Global Village had its traditional annual World Cup of the Language Houses, and G-House had a strong performance, achieving bronze medals.
The Global Village had its first ever Global Village Formal in April, with all Language Houses gathering for a night of dance and celebration.
Finally, German studies topped the year off with a Barbecue.
