Mona Zaki, Visiting Assistant Professor of Arabic Studies, defended her dissertation on the depiction of hell in medieval Islmaic thought in June 2015 at Princeton University in the Near Eastern Studies department.

Professor Zaki is a reviewer and translator of modern Arabic fiction and a contributing editor to Banipal: Journal of Modern Arabic Fiction.  Her research interests, apart from Arabic fiction, include late medieval Muslim hagiography, Western travel narratives to Mecca and contemporary Arab theatre. 

Over the past four years, Professor Zaki has taught Arabic including three levels of language and conversation at Drew University.  She has also taught contemporary Arabic literature in translation, a course on survey of Islamic history 600-1500, as well as a course on Arabian Nights. While at W&M Professor Zaki will teach Arabic language courses, as well as Arabic topic courses.
