Susan Kern (Ph.D. 2005) Receives Two Awards
Susan Kern (Ph.D. 2005) has won the Omohundro Institute of Early American History & Culture "Richard L. Morton Award." The Morton Award recognizes a distinguished article by an author in graduate study at the time of submission. First established in 1986, the award honors Richard L. Morton, founding editor of the journal's Third Series, respected teacher for forty years at the College of William and Mary, and an important colonial American historian. Kern is the first William & Mary graduate student to win the award. The same week at the History Department's commencement ceremony Kern learned that she had also won the Graduate Studies Advisory Board's Distinguished Dissertation Award in the Humanities. Kern is currently Director of the Collegiate Program at the National Institute for American History and Democracy and an adjunct professor at the Lyon G. Tyler Department of History.
