The Graduate Studies Advisory Board Master’s Fellowship is awarded to one outstanding applicant in each of William & Mary’s terminal MS programs in Biology, Chemistry, Computational Operations Research, and Psychological Sciences.

Halleran Dissertation Completion Fellowships in the Humanities

The competitive Michael R. Halleran Dissertation Completion Fellowships in the Humanities are offered to support dissertation completion for William & Mary doctoral students in Anthropology, American Studies, and History.

Kelso Graduate Fellowship in Early American Studies

The competitive Dr. William M. Kelso Graduate Fellowships are offered in the field of early American studies to help recruit outstanding applicants to William & Mary’s MA/PhD or PhD programs in Anthropology, American Studies, or History.

Zable Graduate Fellowship

The competitive Walter J. Zable Graduate Fellowships are offered to help recruit outstanding applicants to William & Mary’s MA/PhD, MS/PhD, and PhD programs in American Studies, Anthropology, Applied Science, Computer Science, History, and Physics

Awards for Excellence in Research

The Awards for Excellence in Research recognize Arts & Sciences graduate students for outstanding written papers submitted for presentation at the annual Research Symposium. There are several different awards offered in this category.

Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring

Unlike the Teaching Assistant awards that are currently offered within some departments/programs, the  S. Laurie Sanderson Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring recognizes mentoring in the context of undergraduate scholarship and research outside of classroom teaching. These awards are given in honor of S. Laurie Sanderson, former Dean of Graduate Studies & Research.

Strikwerda Award for Excellence in Research

The Carl J. Strikwerda Awards for Excellence in Research recognize Arts & Sciences graduate students for outstanding written papers submitted for presentation at the annual Research Symposium. These awards recognize excellence in research conducted while earning the MA, MS, or MPP degree.

Thesis & Dissertation Awards

Distinguished Thesis and Dissertation Awards recognize exemplary achievement in original graduate student research. These awards are given in honor of Virginia Torczon, former Dean of Graduate Studies & Research.

Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Mentoring

Graduate students may nominate faculty for this award that recognizes exemplary graduate mentoring that supports the advancement of students as scholars, teachers, and professionals. The Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Mentoring recognizes faculty adept within the broad spectrum of activities that makes up graduate mentoring.
