In 2014, Graduate Arts & Sciences began offering competitive dissertation fellowships to doctoral students in the humanities. Initially called the Provost Dissertation Fellowships, they were renamed in 2019 to honor Michael R. Halleran's ten years of service as William & Mary's provost and to thank him for his dedicated support of graduate programs.
Detailed information regarding eligibility and application requirements is circulated by email in September each year. By no later than 5:00 p.m. on the last day of classes for each fall semester, doctoral candidates in American Studies, Anthropology, and History may submit an application for consideration to the OGSR.
Note for Fall 2020: Applications for the 2021-2022 Fellowship will be due on December 4, 2020, the original date of the last day of classes for the fall semester. The amended calendar for Fall 2020 will not impact the deadline for Halleran Fellowship applications.
