About W&M's Graduate Research Symposium
The Graduate Research Symposium (GRS) is one of only a few graduate-focused conferences that is broadly themed and therefore designed to bring together graduate students from differing areas of study and from all stages of the degree process. This event encourages interdisciplinary exchange, bringing together students from the sciences and the humanities at William & Mary, as well as from other universities. While participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses, there are no fees to register or participate. Check out our 2025 program to get a sense of the event.

Event History
The Symposium grew out of the American Cultures Conference, an annual event launched in 2002 by William & Mary's American Studies Program. It soon became the Graduate Research Symposium and is now hosted by the Graduate Center; it is organized by a dedicated group of William & Mary graduate student volunteers.
