Study Abroad

Although study abroad is not currently required for GS majors  it is strongly recommended. One of the goals of a Global Studies degree is to develop a richly-informed understanding of a region's culture and society. Spending time in the region you are studying is a way to make your academic work real. There are a lot programs to choose from here at W&M. You might go abroad for few weeks over the summer, or you can spend a whole semester away.

Your major advisor can help choose a program to meet your goals. Some students choose to study abroad to improve their language skills, some to do research, or to take a class in a specific topic. With prior approval, courses taken abroad may count towards your major or used for other degree requirements.

The Global Education Office (GEO) at the Reves Center manages all aspects of study abroad programs for WIlliam & Mary.  Advisors will guide you from pre- to post-program with research, advising, financial aid opportunities, procedures, academic credit, and more. Learn more about studying abroad at GEO.

If you plan to go abroad as part of a research project, you may be able to use research funding from the Charles Center to help.
