Ph.D. Candidate Olanrewaju Lasisi Wins Graduate Studies Advisory Board Award

Anthropology Ph.D. candidate Olanrewaju Lasisi recently won the Graduate Studies Advisory Board Award for Excellence in Scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Lasisi's paper is titled "Written in Sherds, Carved by Pavements: Interpreting the Multiplex Functions of Pavements." Lasisi describes the paper: "it is on my discoveries of other functions of potsherd pavement mosaics beyond serving as quotidian floors. The paper highlights three other functions of pavements based on my excavations at Ile-Ife and the Ijebu kingdom of southwestern Nigeria. I show that Pavement also served as 1. Sundial, 2. Art, and 3. Cartographic map." Lasisi will receive $1,000 for further research. Congratulations Lasisi!
