As part of the Department of Theatre, Speech, and Dance, the Orchesis Modern Dance Company has presented high-quality performances since 1941 at William & Mary and seeks to bring innovative and exciting concerts of student and faculty choreography to the community. Orchesis provides an opportunity for students to develop their performing skills, participate in the choreographic process, and contribute to concert production and company leadership.
By being a part of the company, more committed dancers at William & Mary have the opportunity to receive further education and participation in the art of movement, outside of the classroom. Orchesis is led by both Dance faculty and students officers, emphasizing the importance of communication and collaboration in the company.
Orchesis Modern Dance Company performs in two main stage shows, produced by the Department of Theatre, Speech, and Dance each year: Dancevent in the Fall and An Evening of Dance produced each Spring.
