Conferences Accepting Health Policy-Related Submissions from Undergraduate Students


Are you interested in presenting your health policy research at a conference?  If so, take a look at the conferences below (organized by application deadline month).  If you have a health policy research paper or poster that gets accepted to any conference, let the Schroeder Center know! January Submission Dates

Issues in Political Economy Annual Conference (economics)

Issues in Political Economy “is the leading undergraduate research journal in economics.”  It sponsors an annual undergraduate research conference, where “[s]tudents serve as session chairs and discussants, as well as present their work.”  The conference is held during the annual meeting of the Eastern Economic Association.  Student sessions in 2021 included discussion of health policy-related papers.

Undergraduates may apply to present a poster or a flash talk.  “The first author of a submission, whether or not this person is attending the Convention, must be an APS Member or APS Student Affiliate at the time of the presentation.”  Undergraduates, who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field, may be student affiliates.  Subject areas may include:  behavioral economics, cultural psychology, developmental psychology, experimental psychology, human factors, industrial/organizational psychology, methodology, neuroscience, political psychology, and social psychology. 

Butler University Undergraduate Research Conference (URC) (all disciplines)

Students, who performed research as undergraduates, may do oral (10-13 minutes) or poster presentations.  All submitted presentations are accepted.  Students may also submit papers to the Competitive Paper division, with the 1st place winner receiving $300 and the 2nd place winner receiving $150. 

Economics Scholars Program (ESP) for Undergraduate Research (economics)

“Austin College and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas collaborate to conduct the largest national undergraduate research conference in economics. The Economics Scholars Program (ESP) conference, which began in 2007, is an opportunity for students to present, evaluate, and analyze research in economics at the undergraduate level.”  Research topics have included health economics as well as women and economics.

Midwest Economics Association Annual Conference

The Midwest Economics Association is “a non-profit organization whose purpose is the advancement of economic knowledge and the economics profession.”  Submissions are allowed from current undergraduates as well as recent graduates who completed the work as an undergraduate.  The Association’s annual meeting includes undergraduate specific sessions.  The best undergraduate paper presented receives a $200 award. 

Stanford Research Conference (SRC) (all disciplines)

This conference serves “as a multidisciplinary forum where undergraduates from around the world can present their work, connect with researchers inside and outside their fields of interest, and hear from distinguished researchers from a variety of disciplines.  SRC’s mission is to facilitate exchanges of knowledge that drive intellectual engagement in every field of study, from the humanities and social sciences to the natural sciences, medicine, engineering, and beyond.  Student presenters participate in a three-day immersion in workshops, research presentations, and other professional development programming with Stanford faculty and students.”

Undergraduate Research Conference on Health and Society (all disciplines addressing health, health care, or health policy)

“This interdisciplinary conference welcomes paper proposals from all areas of inquiry that address topics related to health, health care, or health policy, including Anthropology, Biomedical Ethics, Community Health, Economics, Health Care Management, Health Policy, History, Literature, Political Science, Public Health, and Sociology. Abstracts are peer reviewed on a competitive basis by a joint student-faculty selection committee. Accepted participants orally present their research on a panel moderated by a discussant. Additionally, all participants will have the opportunity to publish their work through PC’s Digital Commons.”

American Public Health Association – Student Assembly (public health and related fields)

“APHA-SA invites abstracts from students in public health or other related fields presenting results of scientific research, program evaluations, policy analysis, and lessons learned from research or practice.”  They accept submissions from the following fields:  environmental/occupational health, epidemiology/biostatistics; food and nutrition; health education; health services administration/management; international/global health; maternal and child health; public health law and policy; social and behavioral sciences.

LSU Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium (all disciplines)

All undergraduate, from any university in the country, are invited to submit an application for their research, scholarship and creative activities.  Students may present their research through either a poster or a 15 minute oral presentation.

Sigma Xi Student Research Showcase (human behavioral and social sciences)

The showcase invites submissions (abstracts) for many research categories, including human behavioral and social sciences.  The Student Research Showcase “is a unique opportunity for students to develop effective science communication skills, which every researcher should have. Those who are able to communicate the value of their research to a broader audience are at an advantage in terms of building financial and social support for their work…Participants submit websites containing three main components: a research abstract, a technical slideshow, and a video.”

The Carroll Round (economics)

International Atlantic Economic Conference: Best Undergraduate Paper Competition (economics)

IAES “strives to recognize and reward outstanding research conducted by undergraduate students worldwide” and invites students to compete in its annual undergraduate paper competition (10-20 pages in length).  Four finalists are selected to present their papers at the IAES annual conference.  Winner of the Best Undergraduate Paper Award receives a $1,000, a commemorative plaque, and complimentary publication of their paper in the Atlantic Economic Journal.

Missouri Valley Economic Association Annual Conference (economics)

MVEA encourages “the development of economics as a theoretical as well as applied discipline.”  The organization holds an annual meeting and accepts undergraduate and graduate student paper submissions for student sessions.  A cash award is given for the “Best Graduate Student Paper.”  All papers presented at the annual meeting are eligible for publication consideration in the MVEA’s refereed journal, The Journal of Economic Insight.  Students have presented health-related papers.

Atlanta Undergraduate Conference on Health and Society (public health, medical anthropology, natural sciences, and related disciplines)

“All undergraduate students passionate about the connections between individual health and the health of societies are welcome to join us in this opportunity to share ideas from research, internships, and study abroad experiences focused on the health of populations…The conference provides undergraduate students a professional development opportunity to interact with peers interested in public health issues and to present their work.”  Students may prepare a 12 minute oral presentation or present a poster.

National Conferences on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) (all disciplines)

NCUR promotes “undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for students.”  This conference, which is “the largest symposium of its kind in the world,” provides “a unique environment for the celebration and promotion of undergraduate student achievement; provides models of exemplary research, scholarship, and creative activity; and helps to improve the state of undergraduate education.”  Students may apply for an oral or poster presentation.


December Submission Dates

National Collegiate Research Conference (NCRC) (all disciplines)

Conference Dates:  January 21-23, 2022

This is the “nation’s largest student-run research conference,” providing “a platform for student researchers to share their work and research experiences.”  Any undergraduate is eligible to apply.  Speakers and programming “will come from a variety of research fields.”  The conference includes poster sessions, distinguished keynote speakers, social events, and interactive workshops.

National Conference on Health Disparities (all disciplines)

In the past, the conference has included an Undergraduate and Graduate Student Research Forum which focused “on policies, research interventions, and programs that address prevention, social determinants, and personal responsibility in reducing health disparities and promoting health equity.”  The conference is not limited to students, but students (undergraduate and graduate) may apply to present at a poster session.  “Outstanding abstracts will be chosen for oral presentation and each oral presenter will receive a cash award. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the top-ranked student poster presentations.”

CUR hosts an annual undergraduate poster session on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.  “This competitive event gives students the opportunity to showcase their research to congressional members, meet with their representatives, and learn about advocacy for undergraduate research.”  Student research should focus on at least one of CUR’s divisions, which includes health sciences and social sciences.

Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management (APPAM) – DC Regional Student Conference (all disciplines)

This regional student conference, which includes W&M as a sponsor, focuses on various policy areas, including drugs, economics, family and children, health, impacts on politics on the policy process, labor, population and migration, poverty and income, and social equity and race.  Students present their research on “conference panels with their peers” and receive “important feedback from academics, practitioners, and other students. Students had several opportunities to network and make connections with a diverse group of policy professionals, as well as other policy students.”

British Conference of Undergraduate Research (BCUR) (all disciplines)

BCUR “promotes undergraduate research [posters, papers, and workshops] in all disciplines.”  Research “could be through dissertations or projects, work undertaken in modules, or by taking part in research that goes on in your university through schemes such as undergraduate research internships.”  Abstracts are peer-reviewed.  Recent graduates are able to apply if their research was conducted as an undergrad, and student are welcome from all countries.
 
World Congress on Undergraduate Research (WorldCUR) (all disciplines)
