Professor Anne Rasmussen Awarded the Alan Merriam Prize Honorable Mention
Professor and Music Department Chair Dr. Anne Rasmussen was
awarded the Alan Merriam Prize Honorable Mention for her book Women, the
Recited Qur’an, and Islamic Music in Indonesia, published by the University
of California Press in 2010. The Merriam Prize named after Alan
Merriam, one of the most significant thinkers in the field of ethnomusicology,
is awarded annually to "recognize the
most distinguished, published English-language monograph in the field of
ethnomusicology." This year, a record, forty-three books were
considered for the prize. Martin Stokes was the recipient of the prize
and two additional authors, Anne K. Rasmussen and Henry Spiller were awarded
the an honorable mention.
