Japanese Studies Open House 2025
The Japanese Studies program hosted its annual Open House on Thursday, October 24. This year, the event was held in collaboration with the Japanese House, which organized a tea ceremony at the same time.
The Open House was attended by about forty students, including Japanese Studies majors and minors, those interested in majoring, minoring, or studying abroad in Japan, and others simply interested in Japanese culture.
Professor Cronin, Director of Japanese Studies, began the event by introducing the attendees to the program’s course offerings for Spring 2026, study abroad opportunities in Japan, and career possibilities after graduation.
This introduction was followed by a tea ceremony led by Moeno Hashiguchi, the International Fellow for the Japanese House. Under Moeno-san’s guidance, attendees whisked their own matcha and enjoyed traditional Japanese snacks.
Throughout the event, attendees had the opportunity to chat with one another as well as with Japanese Studies faculty in a relaxing, friendly setting—asking questions about courses, study abroad programs, the major, and what it’s like to be part of the program.
