Teaching Professor Paulina Carrion Honored with Building Connections & Bridging Differences Award

Teaching Professor Paulina Carrión is the 2025 recipient of the Building Connections & Bridging Differences Award.

The Hispanic Studies program is proud to announce that Teaching Professor Paulina Carrión is the 2025 recipient of the Building Connections & Bridging Differences Award. The award was presented on September 25 at a Modern Languages & Literatures meeting by Leslie Revilock, co-chair of the BCBD initiative and moderator of Campus Ministries United.

In the nominator’s letter, a colleague writes:

“Throughout the time that I have worked in the Modern Languages department, I have seen how Prof. Carrión opens her house and her heart to anyone. … She has cooked a meal or two for a colleague when [they are] alone and sick. She also has taken time from her busy schedule to drive International Fellows to Urgent Care and the pharmacy … [she] stops and connects with others, when she recognizes they need a little bit of humanity.”

Professor Carrión has been a presence in the department for over a decade, serving in language instruction (including the highly enrolled class Spanish for the Professions), directing the Summer Study Abroad program in Palungo, Ecuador, acting as liaison to our residential living-learning community in the Global Village, la Casa Hispánica, and mentoring both students and visiting colleagues. Her contributions extend far beyond the classroom and embody the values of care, connection, and community that the BCBD initiative celebrates.
