Harry Rohne
Hispanic Studies & Government
The one semester I did not take a Hispanic Studies class, my sophomore fall, I felt that I had missed out. That is when I knew I had to be a major! I love our tight-knit community between professors and students, like in my Afro-Spanish Colonial Legacies course, where we took a class photo that got put up on the website we created. This recent spring break, I visited my friends Tommy and Gigi in Sevilla, whom I first met in HISP240 and have since taken many classes with. Stopping in to catch up with professors in their offices, or just that quick hello hug, will always be my favorite moments.
Across all of these courses, I have loved being able to continue to improve my Spanish, take a critical look at the current world order, and immerse myself in the field of cultural studies. I have significantly improved my critical thinking skills, as well as reading, writing, and speaking abilities in Spanish. Post-grad, I am looking at working in federal, state, or local politics, and hopefully some diplomatic role where I get to keep using my Spanish. Either way, I will treasure the things I have learned and the dear friendships I have made into the next stage in my life.¡Ha sido un honor ser un estudiante en este departamento!
