Jiacheng Shimoura
Japanese Studies & Economics
I am Jiacheng Shi, a Japanese major student and during my study of J-study here at William and Mary, I got the chance to exchange to Japan's Keio University, which could be one of the most precious experiences of mine.
From immersing myself in Japan’s modern society through its technological innovations, I gained a deep appreciation for the complexity and beauty of Japanese culture and had a chance to explore the land of Japan. One of the most meaningful moments of my journey was participating in cultural events with local students, which allowed me to form lasting friendships and gain insights into daily life in Japan. My academic experience at Keio enriched my understanding of Japan’s history, language, and society, giving me a broader global perspective that will shape my future life.
This experience made me decide to apply for graduate schools in Japan to explore more of the Japanese society and experience a life totally different from the four years I spent here. I plan to continue integrating my cultural experiences and language skills into my academic and professional life. I am excited to explore more of the Japanese society as well as Asia, where I am from. This chance the Modern Language provided me was very important because it changed my future goal and made me want to experience a totally different life. I really appreciate every professor in the department who has supported my journey with the best they could.
