Caroline Williams
Hispanic Studies & Sociology
The Hispanic Studies Department has been one of the primary contributors that made my time at William & Mary so profoundly remarkable. Every professor I have met within this department has shaped, challenged, and pushed me to heights I did not know I could reach. A small sample of this would be when one of my professors introduced the idea of applying for the William & Mary Human Rights Intern Fellowship at the Comisión Provincial por la Memoria (CPM) in La Plata, Argentina. I was accepted, and the experience that followed was invaluable to both my professional and personal growth. This internship reinforced my interest in law and safeguarding human rights, and has led me to my next chapter with Teach For America as a member of their 2025 corps.
Being a student at W&M, I already had a deep love for learning, but being provided with the opportunity to be a teaching assistant allowed me to recognize my passion for pedagogy. I have valued every moment I was in the classroom with a professor from the Hispanic Studies Department. From my very first class to my last few classes, I have remained incredibly impressed by our faculty. I would like to offer thanks to every professor I had the privilege of working with while in this department, especially profesora Carrión and profesor Garrote Pascual -my mentor for the TA program and major advisor respectively.
