Oscar Lazo
Hispanic Studies & Sociology
Out of all the departments I have taken classes in during my time at William & Mary, no department has re-engineered my critical thinking and passion for academia more than the Hispanic Studies department. Whether it has been serving as a TA for intermediate Spanish, studying abroad in La Plata, having the opportunity to take four classes with the same professor (shout out Dr. Rivera Santana), or researching Latin American transitional justice on the side, are given the opportunity to grow in so many ways in and outside of the classroom. Being a Hispanic Studies major has helped me become a more aware person and leader, and I cannot thank the faculty enough. While, at this moment, the future is not concrete, I am excited for the opportunity to some day use the skills I’ve acquired for work in foreign service in Latin America or continue work in academia.
