My time with the Hispanic Studies program has been such a memorable part of college. Deciding to continue studying Spanish has taught me so much, and I cannot stress enough how glad I am that I didn’t stop after high school. My classes in the department never failed to challenge me, especially with some of the more theoretical readings that me and my classmates would bond over trying to decipher. Some of the memories I’ll take with me are reading Cien Años de Soledad in Professor Brix’s class, learning to write in the phonetic alphabet with Professor Varra, and subtitling a Spanish documentary in Professor Cate’s translation class. I’m so glad I chose to spend the past four years with this program and am excited to keep building off everything I’ve learned here.
