Hispanic Studies & Finance

Double majoring in Hispanic studies was easily one of the best decisions I made in my time at the College. From the conversations with professors inside and outside the classroom to studying abroad in Spain, I could not be more grateful for the growth I experienced alongside my peers and the department. It is one thing to learn a language, but a completely different thing to be able to communicate and understand another culture.

When I came to William & Mary, I knew I was passionate about the Spanish language and overall cultural studies that I wanted to learn more. Little did I know how deeply connected I would feel with the program once I left. If you are on campus a lot, you hear and see the classic W&M phrase, “You belong here.” The Hispanic studies department authentically embodies what it feels like to be in a welcoming and respectful environment, to fully “belong.” Of the numerous opportunities that the department offers, I chose to pursue the study abroad opportunity in Cádiz, Spain. Not only was I able to take classes at the Universidad de Cádiz, but I was also able to conduct independent wine market research in Spanish, combining both of my majors. In my last semester at the College, I served as the Brand Strategist for the Hispanic Studies department platforms and worked with faculty in their efforts to further connect with the student population.

After graduation, I will be working for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. I am confident that my experiences in the department have successfully prepared me to be a life-long learner and to always question the processes around me. A big thank you to my professors, mentors, peers, and lifelong friends
