German Studies & Finance

When I chose William & Mary, I knew I wanted to double major in Finance and something else – at the time, I thought it could be English since I love creative writing, but never for a moment did I think it would be German. I had started teaching myself German in high school for fun, so in the haze that was starting college during a pandemic, I figured why not take a language course for some formal practice? That class soon became two classes, then four, and then suddenly I was living in the German house and studying abroad in Berlin for the summer! I’m so grateful to have been a part of that trip as it was my first time traveling abroad and it forced me to be independent and challenge myself in ways I had never thought of before. But even more important than that, it led to the most incredible friendships that have shaped the rest of my college experience. Thus, when I got back, I realized German was the perfect counterpart to my major, especially as I plan to specialize in International Finance and one day live abroad. And as for the immediate future, I’ll be part of a 2-year Finance Development Program with an international company working alongside people from around the world!
