Melvin Ely Wins Albert J. Beveridge Award and the Wesley-Logan Prize

Congratulations to Professor Melvin Patrick Ely. His Israel on the Appomattox: A Southern Experiment in Black Freedom from the 1790s Through the Civil War
received two awards from the American Historical Association: the
Albert J. Beveridge Award for the best book on American history
(including the United States, Canada, and Latin America) and the
Wesley-Logan Prize for the best book on the history of the African
diaspora. Israel on the Appomattox has previously received numerous
other awards and honors including the Bancroft Prize.
