As a top public research university, William & Mary offers Arts & Sciences graduate degree programs that are highly competitive, involve close collaboration with faculty members, and provide opportunities for interdisciplinary study. Students in the natural and computational sciences are encouraged to take advantage of William & Mary's strong connections with research laboratories and consortia in the area. For students in the humanities and social sciences, a wealth of resources, apprenticeships, and internships are available for obtaining practical experience in a variety of career fields.
The Office of Graduate Studies and Research administers recruiting, admissions, registration, graduate aid, curriculum policy and procedure, and graduation for A&S graduate degree programs. This office also supports graduate student research and offers a wide array of services designed to meet the needs of graduate students.
The Graduate Center, located on campus at the Stetson House, 232 Jamestown Road, offers workshops, discussion groups, and short courses. These programs allow graduate students to refine writing and other communications skills, and explore ways to apply specialized skills in the "real world" environment. The weekly Graduate Arts & Sciences Newsletter keeps students informed of these and other resources. The Graduate Student Association is popular and sponsors activities within the A&S graduate student community.
Students preparing for careers as teachers receive training from their home departments, and are invited to attend faculty workshops sponsored by the University Teaching Project. Students also have access to career counseling and planning, job placement, and panels that highlight a range of careers.
