Escaping the Energy Poverty Trap

Assistant Professor S.P. Harish’s most recent work, Escaping the Energy Poverty Trap: When and How Governments Power the Lives of the Poor, has been published by The MIT Press. Harish has previously published in leading journals including American Political Science Review and more. His work has also been featured in popular outlets such as The Atlantic, NY Magazine and more. Harish has a PhD in Political Science from New York University and a masters in international Relations from the S. Rajaratnam School of international Studies in Singapore.

His latest work is the first comprehensive account of energy poverty and argues that governments can improve energy access for their citizens by way of policy design. Industrialized countries enjoy modern energy while billions are left without access. Harish questions why that is and explores why governments have or have not been providing modern energy to all citizens. You can purchase the book here.
