Evan Fatouros ‘24 works as grassroots organizer on campaign for Wisconsin Supreme Court Judge
This past spring, Evan Fatouros ’24, was offered the opportunity to work as a Voter Contact Organizer for For Our Future, a nationwide political action fund. For Our Future has a year-round presence in key “swing-states”. Using what he learned as a W & M Government major, Evan traveled to Wisconsin to work on the high-profile campaign of Judge Susan M Crawford for the Supreme Court of Wisconsin. In April 2025, Judge Crawford was elected to the position for a ten-year term. The race was noteworthy being designated as the most expensive judicial race in history with total spending approaching $100 million dollars. As a result, the judicial election received significant nationwide media attention. In his role as a grass-roots organizer, Evan worked in the greater Eau Claire area conversing with voters and distributing campaign literature in neighborhoods reminding voters of their influence in choosing a future for Wisconsin. He also helped coordinate with local advocacy organizations to recruit and retain volunteers.
A native Virginian, Evan learned that Wisconsin voters share many of the same priorities. Wisconsin has a large population of people eligible for social security and/or Veteran’s Administration benefits. Voters across the political spectrum expressed concern about the future of these programs. These concerns were factored into their voting decisions. The biggest take away was that voters were in search of reasonable and moderate leadership. Dane County Judge Susan Crawford, now Justice-elect, campaigned on this “common sense” message.
Taking an active role in a high-profile campaign reinforced many of the lessons Evan learned at W & M with Government professors Roessler, Evans, and McGlennon. “I was certainly reminded…how different types of local government impact voting patterns... and the electoral consequences of taking positions on issues that affect constituents.” Evan’s future includes more campaign work. He is looking forward to being active in the upcoming Viginia election cycle.
