Under the leadership of the Dean, this office provides a voice for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences; strives to meet the needs of individual departments and programs; promotes excellence across Arts & Sciences as a whole; and represents the priorities of Arts & Sciences to the larger university community. Kate Conley began her tenure as Dean on July 1, 2012.
The Dean's Office also has four deans [pdf] who are responsible for day-to-day management of the graduate and undergraduate programs and who serve as the primary administrative liaisons to assigned departments and programs.
An important part of the Dean's role takes place off campus, connecting with such external constituencies as alumni, students' families, and grant-funding agencies. The Dean seeks, for example, private support for new initiatives, ways our alumni can continue to play an active role in supporting the mission of Arts & Sciences, and ways to increase our already significant federal support for research.
